Programs at La Conner Regional Library Summer Reading All students in grades K-8 are invited to participate in the summer reading program. The library staff will attend school assemblies or classrooms in early June to invite students to participate. Summer reading participants are welcome to attend events at any of the libraries in Skagit County. For our local programs see the schedule below. Computer Classes Computer classes are offered periodically at the library and with our portable computer lab we now can take our classes to other facilities. We use a community volunteer and the schedule is determined by demand and availablity. Class size is limited to 9 people. If you are interested in the classes listed below or any other computer classes call the library at 360-466-3352. The current series of computer classes consists of basic classes for: Beginning computer use and Surfing the Internet Storytimes All pre-schoolers age 3-5 and their parents are invited to attend Storytime. Storytime is held every Wednesday morning 10:00 a.m. and lasts about 30 minutes. Storytime is held in the library, before the library opens to the public. Each storytime has a theme (weather, food, pets, holidays, etc). The goal of storytime is to help young children develop literacy skills and a love for stories, predict events, early math skills, and read independently for pleasure. For little ones birth to 3 we are holding Baby 'n Me Storytimes every Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. Simple stories, songs and fingerplays designed to introduce baby to pre-literacy activities. Arts Alive & Quilt Festivals Arts activities for children and adults are planned during La Conner's annual Art's Alive! Festival in November. La Conner Regional Library has its annual Bookmark contest in conjunction with Arts Alive! Bookmarks are judged on originality (in all but spelling!) and projection of the theme. During the Annual Quilt Festival in September the library sponsors activities and has a quilt (or two) hung in the library during the month long quilt walk.
